I am prepping for a week away from home at a conference. I’ll be gone Sunday night through Friday afternoon, working intensely in a conference setting. I am committed to remaining on my KetoChow nutritional plan (go here to learn more on that).
This is going to be a challenge. KetoChow is indeed “powdered food” but it is not as simple as throwing some protein powder in a baggie and mixing it up when you are there. This is because, as a ketogenic approach to nutrition, you have to add fat from outside sources to the powder. At home, it is not that involved to mix up a day’s batch before bed, but you definitely need the fixings and the equipment.
Here is what you need:
- MCT Oil (1 TBSP per meal)
- Heavy Cream (1/2 cup per meal)
- Blender Bottles
- Digital scale that measures 0.10 grams
- Measuring cup (1/2 cup)
- Pump bottle (I put my MCT oil in it to avoid spillage)
So I have thought long and hard about how I am going to handle this week. Here is the strategy I have come up with.
First of all, I have requested ahead of time a room with a fridge. If I cannot get that I am going to have to improvise on-site. I may just pitch a fit and see if that works.
Now, let’s assume I do get that fridge. Here is the plan. I have pre-measured out every meal into little baggies, and pre-measured MCT oil into little vials (repurposed 5 Hour Energy containers). Each vial holds one full day of MCT oil, 3 TBSP. I marked the levels with a Sharpie. I am taking a 1/2 cup measuring cup, and I am taking two blender bottles so I can have at least one meal ahead of time chilling. On the way to the hotel from the airport, I will stop at a grocery store and buy 1 quart of heavy cream (I will need 7.5 cups for five days).
It took about 30 minutes to do all that prep and I was surprised at how easy it was.
